DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS!

I’m off to Texas!! Yippeee!! My good friend Erica is having a baby, and there is going to be a baby shower for her and I’m flying out there to help her celebrate! PLUS, we plan on doing lots of shopping and visiting and hanging out. Erica and I are practically professional shoppers at this point, as we now have a combined 34 years of MALL experience. (Erica when did we get old?)

Anyway, it should be a ton of fun and I am looking forward to it.

As an added bonus, I’m flying out of Raleigh, so I will get to visit with my sister and my NEPHEW! Yay-an adorable fat baby to play with tonight, while I watch the season premier of Alias. Oooh ahhh!  What a good night it’s going to be. I wish I didn’t have to work today. Working for a living is getting in the way of all the fun things I want to do!

So you want a job

My second job is as a recruiter for an insurance company. I call folks and say, hey we liked your resume would you like to come in for an interview? While this does not require a lot of brain power, it does require a lot of WILL power not to laugh at some of these folks because, let me tell you, there are some FREAKY people out there looking for jobs. People who have only the vaguest idea of what a resume should look like. Or only the vaguest idea of what the English language should look like. People who have voice mail, that honest to God, doesn’t say anything, its just weird music and then a BEEP. Let me give you some examples:

I would love to accelerate with your company. Where exactly do you think we are going buddy? To the moon?

I offer sells experience. (but you're too dumb to be hired!)

I don’t have a driver’s license, so I need a job near a bus stop. (I swear that is what it said in her resume)

I want an interesting job. You would be surprised how many people out there say this. Who is looking for a boring job I ask you?

I want a job where I don’t have to stand on my feet all day. Ahhh….ok.

I want a job where I can use my SECRET GOVERNMENT CLEARANCE. And it was typed just like that, with secret government clearance in big bold letters. This guy had me laughing for days. How many jobs out there require secret government clearance which is in the public sector?

But the best ones, I have to say are the email addresses people have for themselves that they actually put down on a resume. Like

maddthighs@...... Yes that’s right MADD THIGHS. How professional.

Sxychica@ okay, so you’re cute

Princesskeisha@ all right your highness.

Queen4u@..... There are a lot of variations of queen and princess among the ladies.

And for the guys, there are a LOT of drink names/sport teams/fraternity stuff.

I want to call these people and say don’t you have any friends that have jobs that can tell you not to do stuff like this? I mean, good lord, am I actually going to email say, themadhatter@blahblah.com and say YOU are the guy for us? I don’t think so. It makes me wonder about people. I mean, do they think it’s catchy or do they just not think about it at all?

Anyway, I thought I would share some of the funnier stuff with you guys. If this has taught me anything, it’s that I am MUCH smarter than I originally thought. Ha ha ha ha

Yard Sale Success!

Our Yard Sale went very well. We had a lot of traffic come through and we made some good money, so I am a happy camper. We were both surprised to see more men than women shopping at the yard sale. And all in all, the people seemed really nice. One of the ways that we got people to stop by was we that we wrote GOING TO CHINA on all the signs, so people were intrigued and wanted to pop by. Most of them thought we were moving there, so they were looking for furniture and there was one guy who started eyeing Shannon’s house and cars. HA HA HA…But once we set them straight about why we were going to China, we got nothing but congratulations and well wishes. There was one moron, a fat, older man with a very pregnant young Chinese wife who came over and started preaching to us about how people in China were freer than people in the US and that we were all going to hell because we didn’t allow religion in US public schools. I got VERY angry at that guy, but I somehow managed to find enough class to just get up and walk away from him. I can’t believe I had the brains to do that, when inside I was screaming my head off.  I had my little hissy fit after he left, but I can’t believe he had the audacity to sit there and preach COMMUNISIM simultaneously with Christianity (sees odd, no?). But hey, that is what makes America a great place to live. You can be an ass all you want, and we don’t arrest you here for speaking your mind.  And if any of you want to say how much you love communism, save it. I don’t want to hear it and I’ll just delete your stupid ass comment from my site.  Don’t get me started.

In any case, that one moron did not ruin my day by any means. And I definitely made enough to get a dresser at Ikea. OOOH AHHH. So goal met! J  I can’t WAIT to get to Ikea now, especially the way Shannon has been pimping their products to me for the last 2 months! I’m so looking forward to spending all of my hard earned money there! Now, if gas prices would come down a tad, we could afford to go to Atlanta. Hopefully in a few weeks it will be a little closer to normal.

Other good things that happened this weekend: my sister picked a date to have Colin baptized. So I’m looking forward to that, since I get to be the GODMOTHER. It doesn’t carry quite the punch that the Godfather title carries, but it still is very cool.  AND, I think I’m finally FINALLY done with all my adoption paper work. I have 2 items to get notarized this afternoon, but then I should be able to send everything in to the NC State dept for authentication. WOO HOOO!! I plan to send them out Wednesday.  (I have to make copies before I send everything, just in case it gets lost or something)    I can’t believe I’m almost done with this stuff.  I’m this much closer to Emily!

YARD SALE

Shannon R and I are having a FABULOUS Yard Sale tomorrow morning. OOoh AHHHH.  It will be good. The weather is supposed to be nice here, and I feel in my bones that we are going to have a good turnout. We made all these giant FLORESCENT colored posters, and we are going to put them up tonight in really good locations. We have it all mapped out. Wish us luck folks!

I’m aiming to earn enough money to buy a dresser from Ikea. So…send happy thoughts our way!

Lurkers

Come out, come out, wherever you are!  You know who you are people. There are those of you who visit my site and never say howdy!  Now is your big chance! Say HOLA, hello, bonjour, or whatever you want (just so long as it’s not mean or rude) Leave me a comment!  Make up a name if you have too, but leave me a comment. I know you are out there lurking!   Besides, it makes me happy to have comments.

And as I am the head Princess here, you will do as I wish! Hee hee hee  I better enjoy my head Princess status while it lasts. I’m sure once Emily gets here I will be usurped!

All the cuties from LOST. Posted by Picasa

LOST

Last night I trekked over to Shannon’s house to watch the season premier of LOST.  She also fed me really REALLY yummy lasagna, which was a definite perk!  Lost was pretty good, but as usual, it left me with more questions that answers. And without giving too much away, I did not see nearly enough guys without their shirts on as I would have preferred. HA HA HA  Still it was a great evening and I’m glad to find another addict    fan to watch the show with!

Unsung Hero

Today I became an unsung hero. How did that happen? (I can hear you asking from here!)  TODAY, I single handedly prevented DECAF coffee from being put into our office coffee machine by a sneak. Someone who actually PERFERS decaf was reaching for the green packet while she was making coffee and I lunged for her and said NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO (like in slow motion) I mean, Good Lord, did I prevent a crisis or what?  I very quickly whipped up the Full frontal attack of regular completely caffeinated coffee to brew. I mean, how am I supposed to work on de-caf? I need ALL of my brain cells people.  No one in the office may know it, but I know, I saved them all.

HA HA HA HA

Now, in other news, the yard sale got postponed until next weekend. I’m hoping to have junk donated to me from friends so that I have more to sell. In case you missed it, that was a HINT!  It should be fine either way, because the longer I have, the more time I have to go through my crap and decide I don’t really need that after all.  I’m not quite sure how I accumulated all this stuff, but it is an ENORMOUS amount of stuff that I own now.

Not much else is going on. I feel like I work all the time now, with the second job. But it’s okay, as I need to pay for a plane ticket to CHINA. I mean, that is pretty good motivation, right?  It’s hard to imagine that this time next year, Emily will be here and I will be someone’s MOM.  Very cool.

HAPPY FRIDAY

TODAY IS FRIDAY!!! WOOO HOOO!  And let me tell you the best bit of this morning: I just talked on the phone with a woman named TEQUILA!  TEQUILA people! That was her NAME.  I mean, worm in the bottle TEQUILA!    How do you go through life with that kind of a name??  In any case, I barely made it off the phone without laughing at her, and now, I think I’ve cracked a rib from keeping my laughter inside!!  Good grief. TEQUILA!!!  Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha   Apparently her mom didn’t spend the months I did, agonizing over the right name for her daughter. At least, let’s hope that naming her TEQUILA was the spur of the moment kind of decision.

My big plan for this weekend is to have a YARD SALE with the other Shannon (http://www.sarbyh.blogspot.com/ ) We made giant signs that say GOING TO CHINA, YARD SALE, because we are both adoptive moms to be. Hopefully we will make some money, but if not, at least I will get rid of some junk in my house. It’s a two for one deal, clean out the house and earn some money all in one morning. OOOH AHHHH. Wish us luck!

yay!

I finally FINALLY received my complete, notarized copy of my home study. I can NOT believe how long it took to get this. But, it’s here now, so I’m not going to complain. I’m going to double check it tonight and if all is groovy, I will be sending a package to the state dept by Monday. WOO HOO.  One less thing to worry about.

TGIF!

THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!!! This week has been crazy, but it is just about over, and I'm so SOOOO glad! :-) The best part is, I'm going to Raleigh this weekend to play with my nephew! YAY!!! I know he doesn't do much yet, but he's just so cute, I don't care if he just sleeps while I'm there.

Mary Mia asked me an interesting question, what is your favorite kind of chocolate? Isn't that a good question? I mean really, how can you pick just ONE kind to be your favorite?!?! I guess though, if I HAVE to pick one, I'm going to go with the Lindt brand, milk chocolate. I like those little bite size chocolate balls you can get at the counter of Boarders, and they come in like flavors, strawberry, hazelnut, irish cream. sooo sooo yummy. Pretty much if it's chocolate though, you can't go wrong. (however, I'm not a fan of the dark chocolate, it's too bitter) So what about you folks? Any chocoholic recomendations? If it means I have to spend my weekend taste testing new candy, so be it. TWIST MY ARM!!

grrrrrrr

My stupid Finalized Home Study has STILL not shown up. I called today and the lady said it will take ANOTHER WEEK. I’m so ticked off right now. They advertise that it takes 8-12 weeks to get the home study done. This has taken WAY WAY longer than 8 to 12 weeks. I’m about to flip out right now. I don’t really understand how they can do this to people. I mean, TO ME, that home study is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.  What is the problem here???? They are supposed to do this stuff ALL THE TIME. They should be able to whip out a home study like Betty Crocker makes brownies, right?

GRRRRRRRRRRRR!  I just needed to vent. Work is still insane. Actually it is more insane than it was last week, if that is even possible. And I started my second job OFFICIALY last night, so I’m stressed out already and I don’t want to hear it will take ANOTHER WEEK to get my home study. GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

I’m off to eat chocolate. Chocolate is a wonder drug. It will make everything happy again.

My so called life

My so called life is missing. All I have done this whole week is WORK. Since I really like my job most of the time, this isn't a big deal, but this week has been so crazy busy. I work in a non-profit charity organization, and needless to say, Hurricane Katrina is really putting us to the test! I am proud to say that I truly believe we are helping thousands of people, but it is a little stressful, and i'm not even on the front lines!! Still, like most of you, just watching the news makes me tear up and leaves me emotionally drained. I just feel so bad for those people. I can't imagine losing every single thing I owned all at the same time. I can't wrap my brain around it. I'm glad to take this weekend off, mentally and just become a vegetable!
Anyway, the one exciting thing I've done is get me a little part time job. ( I know your thinking MORE WORK?!?!) But it's good, and it's easy and I can do it from my house. So all those extra funds will be put into my adoption pile. YAY! So I start that next week. Also this week we started up Brownie meetings once again. I'm pretty excited to be back with my girls, they are some cool kids and I think we are going to do some cool stuff this year. Now that most of them are in 2nd grade, we want to really stress the importance of community service. They are old enough to understand helping out their fellow neighbors. We will still do fun stuff like bowling and roller skating, but a service project now and again will be a nice addition.
Other than that, I have no adoption news. I'm still waiting on my finalized, corrected copy of my home study. I really thought I would have it by now, but I don't. Other than that, I have to sit tight and wait. Luckily work has kept me too busy to notice that I'm waiting. Do any of the rest of y'all wonder what happened to your life? I mean, I used to go out, see a movie, MEET people. Now, if I go out, it's to ooh and ahh over the baby dept of Target. It's sad people. SAD. But then again, that's really what I want to do with my time, sooooo that makes it okay, right? :-) Stalking the clearence section of infant clothes counts as having a life, no?
