Why I Hate my Agency
I adopted my daughter from China. Now I'm married and learning to be a wife & Mom all at the same time! YIKES!

A year ago today was the longest.day.ever. We flew home from China with Emily! It was a happy day, but it just seemed to go on, and on. And on. We got up around 430 am to be all set to leave the White Swan at 6. We got on a bus with our guide and one other family and he brought us to the airport and got us all checked in. It was sad leaving China, but at the same time, I was so happy to be going home with my baby girl. I was ready to be back with my stuff, and introduce Emily to everyone. Our first flight was from Guangzhou to Tokyo. From there we went to Detroit. That was the hard bit. That was a long long flight. We sat in the middle of the very last row of the plane, right in front of the bathroom. Row 67. Fun times. Emily did great, and she slept quite a bit, but I didn’t do so good. I napped a bit, but I have a lot of trouble sleeping on a plane, and I spent most of the flight holding Emily, so although she slept, I really didn’t. Then we landed in Detroit and spent about 2 hours going through customs. What a freaking PITA. They have got to get that more organized. It was waiting in line for forever. FINALLY we got to turn in the famous brown envelope and I thought it would be this huge deal for Emily, yay you’re American! I mean, I waited like 3 + years for that moment. The lady who opened the envelope was a total b*tch though and basically ripped open the envelope, stamped it and waved us on. Welcome to America kid. Anyways, we made it. Then we had to wait a bit in the lounge (thank goodness for the lounge because I had hit the wall by then) and take yet another hour and half flight home. All 4 of us slept on that flight.
When we landed it was just great. We were tired, and looked awful but we were home and everyone was there. It was awesome. There were posters and balloons and everyone dying to meet Emily. I was so relieved. And so thankful. You know who really loves you during those moments.
So happy 1 year anniversary baby girl!! It was a great day, and I’ll remember it always. (and it was the best birthday gift I ever got!!)
Ok, that’s it for now. I’m sure there are other things…like what are Tuba Nuts anyways? And about how now I’m seriously considering getting a Festivus table top pole for my desk at work. (wouldn’t it be great if you could air your grievances at work once a year and still be employeed??!?)

A year ago today the best miracle of all happened to me- I met Emily FuZhong! I remember every detail of that day. I remember how we excited and nervous and anxious I was the whole 2 hour flight from Beijing to Chongqing. Tony slept, and I attempted to read. After reading the same sentence about 35 times, I realized that nothing was going to take my mind off what was going to happen soon, meeting Emily and becoming a real live FAMILY. I just stared at her picture and prayed and cried a bit. Our flight was delayed in leaving Beijing, so when we arrived and met our guide, he told us the babies were already there, waiting for us. We got our luggage and got on our bus and went right over to the government building. Looking back, I’m surprised I didn’t get sick on that bus ride. I was totally a bundle of nerves. Would she like me? Would she scream and cry? Would we have an easy transition together? Would she like Tony? AHHHHHHH!! We got there and went up to the 14th floor. On the elevator ride, everyone was turning on cameras and videos to make sure not to miss a moment. I wasn’t sure exactly how this would happen. Would they put us in a room and bring us the babies? I’d read 100s of blogs and that seemed to be normal procedure. But not for us!! We got off the elevator turned a corner, and there was Emily, in a walker, with about 400 layers of clothes on, just waiting for us. I remember bending down to say hello. She didn’t cry. She just looked at me with her big eyes and put her hand up and touched my cheek. Like hey, you’re here! Tony picked her up out of the walker and told her we loved her. He was right. Although only me and dad and Tony were there that day, in real life so many family and friends were sending her their love from half a world away. It was the most amazing day ever. Emily never cried. She just sort of observed us with her big eyes. She let us hold her with no problems. I was sure once we tried to leave, she would let us have it. But she didn’t. (at least she didn’t until she got hungry!! Then it was loud complaining!) I have since learned that this is how Em handles all new situations. She just stops and stares and takes everything in. Then she makes up her mind weather this is good stuff or bad stuff and moves on from there. She must have decided we were good stuff. (lucky for us!) She was just perfect.
Later when we got back to the hotel we took off 2 or 3 layers of her clothes so she could breathe a bit. We called Mom and told her all about her new granddaughter. We called Tony’s parents. We called my sister. We sent emails. I wanted to climb to the top of the hotel we were in and shout from the rooftops. HEY WORLD, I HAVE A DAUGHTER! Instead, I settled on just being in happy shock. It was a super super day and the most amazing experience in my entire life.
When I look back on this year, I’m just astounded. First, Emily came home and we became a family. Then Tony and I got married. We have this beautiful life together and just thinking about how much I have and how much I am grateful for, it makes me cry a bit. Emily is the sunshine in my life. She is happiness and joy and laughter all combined into one tiny and perfect person. She fits into our family so well, I can’t help but believe in fate and destiny and God.
Tonight we are celebrating our first Forever Family Day. I couldn’t be more excited and happy!
A year ago today, Tony & I got up at the crack of dawn to get ready to go to China!! My parents met us at our house super early, we made sure we had everything like 3 times, and then my friend Jeff came to help drive us and all our stuff to the airport. It was so exciting. I was so nervous and excited I was a little nauseous. But the flight(s) went fine. All I did the whole flight was look at Emily’s picture every 20 mins and pray that our plane didn’t crash. ( I do that for most flights I’m on) It’s hard to believe it’s been a year already. Where does the time go??
Random things today
Why do stores have 1 day sales with a “preview day”? Isn’t that a TWO DAY SALE? That is making me crazy this shopping season because it’s on the radio All. The. Time. . They make it sound like we’re all too stupid to figure this out. It irks me.
I asked Emily for a kiss goodbye when I dropped her at day care this morning. And she actually gave me one! Usually she just walks away or turns her head or says NO! and laughs. But I actually got a real kiss today. YAY!! It was so happy making!
I’ve done most of my Christmas shopping. All of it online. Now I’m all excited to see what the mail is every day. LOL
I am working on a secret Christmas present/project. It’s taking up some of my time at night, but I’m enjoying it. All will be revealed soon. (hopefully next week) I know you are now all on pins & needles.
I have at least 40 pictures of Emily to post, but aforementioned Christmas project is distracting me from posting. I’m going to make an effort tonight. I have super cute ones from Thanksgiving I’ve got to share.
I’m going to see Twilight this weekend with my friend Jill. (HI JILL!) I am soooo excited. I’m a big fan of the books, and although I’m a team Jacob person myself, I’m still looking forward to the movie. If you’ve already seen it, please don’t ruin it for me. I want to be surprised.
One year ago tonight, we got the call from my agency. The go ahead and buy your ticket to China call. It was a crazy CRAZY night. For one thing, I didn’t even know we had travel approval (because my agency sucked and never told me that) and for the other, they had told us we probably wouldn’t fly until January. So, out of the blue, a call to say, buy your tickets we want you to leave in 4 days, well…it was a shocker. A GOOD shocker, but still. The other crazy thing that happened that day was that Tony had come down with the flu and had left work early. Somehow the cat escaped the house during the afternoon. Around 7 or so we started getting nervous and went out looking for her. And we found her pretty quickly, as she was stuck in the bottom of the sewer at the end of our street, meowing her head off. A long night followed, but we did finally get her out, got Tony to bed, and I began laundry and packing. That night has come to be known as “Sewer Cat Night”. Poor Emily. What a thing to put in her lifebook, right?
