Emily 17 Months Update

Emily’s school just called me.  I guess my girl IS getting bigger. They are transitioning Emily from her room to the toddler room this week. She’ll spend 30 mins in the new room today, an hour tomorrow, etc, until she spends all day Friday there. Next week she’ll full time be in that new room.

I’m sad. I want her to be a baby still. I don’t want her to be a toddler yet!!!  The only good thing about being a toddler is that maybe she’ll be potty trained in the next months.    After the a$$plosions this weekend, that might not be a bad thing.  We now have a new family rule: Emily isn’t allowed a whole box of raisins anymore. EWWWWWWWWW

Emily at 17 Months

Emily is now 17 months old.  So here are a few of the highlights!

  • She can walk everywhere, and run too!
  • She can crawl up the stairs, and walk up them one at a time if I hold her hands.
  • I’m too afraid to let her go down them, so I have no idea about that. (hey, cut me some slack, I’m new at this!)
  • She can say with some consistency  Mama, Dada, Ball, Yuck, doggie and UP
  • She “talks” a lot, and I think she is starting to repeat things I say to her. She doesn’t like to try too much though, she’d rather babble.
  • She can feed herself with her hands and is showing lots of interest in using a spoon or fork. She sometimes even steals the grown up ones right off our plates.
  • She can sit in a kids folding chair and “read” a book.  She can onto and off of the chair all by herself, most of the time.
  • She loves having a book read to her and turning the pages herself.
  • She can put shapes on a peg board. She doesn’t know the shapes, she just has the coordination to put them on the pegs.

For Emily

I was thinking of getting http://www.peacetoys.com/babhugplanea.html for Emily. (the hyper link isn't working...ugh)   I thought it might be easier to explain where she came from if she could see it. What do you think?  Anyone have one of these??

More Wedding Rant

It’s not my regular hair girl doing my bridal hair. But I called her to ask for a recommendation, and this gal works in the same salon as my girl. The good thing is that the salon is only 5 or 6 mins from the church.  The bad thing is the 75 dollars does NOT include a practice run, I have to pay an additional 50 for that. PLUS, I have to call someone else about make up.  Good grief.  I really want a practice run too, because I do NOT want to look a country western star on the day of my wedding. I’ll be having a mini breakdown that day already, I don’t need stress about my stupid hair.

Today’s rant, I called the church wedding director and apparently we can’t get married at 330 like we were planning, it has to be at 3 because they don’t want to run into the 530 service they have.   Which in and of itself is not a big deal. HOWEVER, the reception and junk doesn’t start until 5.  So if we start at 3, my guests are going to have to sit around a hotel for 30-45 mins waiting for the party to start. I’m not real thrilled with that. In fact, I’m pretty ticked now that I think about it.  What the F?  Why would the priest tell me a time that wasn’t good? Thank goodness I haven’t ordered the invitations yet.

Wedding Rant

Why are wedding so freaking expensive!?!? WHY!  I called a hair place today. To do just my hair alone for the wedding day is 75.00. Doesn’t that seem extreme? I can get the whole thing cut and colored with highlights for 110!! Geez louise!    It’s insane. It’s just like the adoption, every time I turn around someone wants 400 bucks from me. I don’t want to look like a hooker, but come on! 75.00 for a hair do?  And of course, I’m completely inept at doing my own hair. I’m lucky to go a day blow drying it without getting a chunk sucked in the back end of the blow dryer and burnt to a crisp.  *sigh*   I better look darn good for this much dinero people!

Thursday

My parents came to visit yesterday evening for dinner. We had a blast!  Emily luvs Grampy and Grammy She-She. And of course, they think the sun rises and sets on her tiny hiney, so it was fun for everyone.   I did take a bunch of pictures, but I didn’t get a chance to upload them last night.  Mostly because I had to finish Eclipse my new book addiction.  The books are good, but they are no Harry Potter. *sigh*  I haven’t found anything yet that is even close to how HP rocked my fiction loving world.  But, all things aside, the Twilight series is pretty good, even if I do have nightmares about vampires and werewolves after I read them. (Harry didn’t give me nightmares…another plus for Potter)  And besides that, I can’t seem to get behind the main character. I keep hoping she will change her mind and then she doesn’t.  Anyways, only one more book left to read in the series and that comes out in Aug, so it will be interesting to see if she finally does change her mind at the end!

In other news, T got fitted for some new hearing aids yesterday.  He gets to pick them up on Monday. We are both excited about this. Hopefully they will work really well and he will be able to hear a-ok with them. I know it will be an adjustment for him, and for me, but it should make his life easier.  He has had some hearing issues for awhile, but I’m glad he is doing something about it now.  He got the very cool kind of aids that go right into your ear and are pretty small. Did you know they match the little bit that goes over your ear to your hair color? I never knew that!  If he’ll let me, I’ll take some pics of him wearing them when they come in. (he may not let me though)

Emily is still having trouble leaving me in the morning. I feel pretty shocked about it still. She was doing really great in day care for the last few months, but it’s like boom, all of a sudden, she can’t stand to be separated from me. She cries and wails and reaches for me when I drop her off in the morning. I don’t get it. She has the same teachers, we go to the same place….any insight from any BTDT moms?  It’s breaking my heart every morning. My instinct is to snatch her up and run home with her!  But I have to work. (boo) What to do? I leave my bag there in the room, so she can see it all day. I don’t know if that makes a difference.  I could leave a picture maybe. She already has a blankie from home.  Thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

Catch Up

It occurs to me that I’ve become a very horrible blogger. The whole “banned at work” thing makes it much harder. Honestly. I LIKE to read about all my bloggy peeps lives, but since I’m on the computer like all day long, the last thing I want to do when I get home at night is hop back on the computer. It stinks. Plus, let’s be honest, I’d much rather spend my time with Emily than on line.  Of course, she is bed by 8, but by then I’m sort of winding down.  I want to watch TV, or read my book, or talk with T.  It feels like every day I’m running a race to make it to 8pm. And then when I finally do I’m beat!! Is this how it is for all parents?  Ugh.

Emily can walk really well now. She can even run a bit.  This weekend she figured out how to let me “chase” her.  I go I’m gonna get you! and she runs about 3 feet and then she stops so I can “catch” her and tickle her. She thinks its hysterical, which makes it funny to me.  So we did that a lot this weekend.  We also practiced climbing the steps in the house. We have 16 stairs. She does pretty good, but it makes me nervous.  So up and down we went! That should totally count as a workout, right?

Other weekend highlights:

  1. I got a new cell phone!! Nothing fancy shmancy, but my old one was dying. It irks me to no end that the cell phone people make you get a 2 year contract, but they don’t build the cell phones to actually LAST 2 years. I’ve never had one yet that’s lasted that long. The battery dies, or something weird happens to the screen…etc. Anyways, Tony and I merged accounts and minutes and we both got shiny new phones. OOOH AHHH
  2. Emily has 4 new teeth coming in, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom.  She seems fine, no pain or fever, but she is super clingy. SUPER clingy.  This morning when I dropped her at day care she screamed and cried and reached for me. It killed me to leave her there.  I called later to check on her, and she was fine. She is just needing her mommy right now I guess.
  3. Tony and I registered on Sat night. Such fun!  I even let T use the magic bar code scanner thingymerbob.  And then we went out to dinner at a place we might have the rehearsal dinner for the wedding. It was nice. We got a real live babysitter and everything.  Like grownups!
  4. My tooth is much better. The dentist had to pull out electrical appliances to fix it, which was very scary. I felt bad for the guy, because try as I might, I couldn’t stop shaking like a leaf in the chair.  But he fixed it and it didn’t even hurt that much.  It hurts now whenever I eat something cold though. I’m hoping that’s not permanent. I bought some sensitive toothpaste, but so far, it doesn’t seem to help all that much. Even eating cereal with cold milk is painful. I’ll give it another few days and then I may have to go back. I really hope not though.

That’s it for now. I’m going to make an effort to blog a bit more for the rest of this month. Wish me luck!

Songs & Teeth

First, thanks to everyone for their suggestions about wedding songs!  I’ve officially added to the list Brick House, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and the YMCA.  And I put Hokie Pokie on the do not play list. I was a little horrified at reading that. The Hokie Pokie shouldn’t even be an option at a wedding. I mean, who the hell does that?  What a nightmare that would be!!   Ugh.

Emily came home from the parade with a full blown cold. She was pretty cranky on the actual 4th. Boo. And then Sat morning I woke up with the cold myself. DOUBLE BOO!  I’ve been snot face since then. Actually, I’m feeling better today, but still the cough. Emily was fine by Monday. It stinks that she gets over it in a couple days and I get it for like a week.

Last night I had dinner with fun Shanny. We had a great time catching up and visiting. We had Mexican –yummy, and I noticed ½ way through the meal that it felt like I had a very persistant piece of tortilla chip stuck in my tooth. Well it turns out that I actually chipped a molar!! It sounds a lot more painful than it actually is. It hurts a bit, and I can’t stop poking my tongue against my tooth, feeling the pointy edge. It’s way weird. Anyways, I’m going to the dentist in a few hours. I’m not sure what they can do. To be honest, I am a bit phobic of the dentist. There is a lot of hand clenching going on while I’m there. If he needs to pull out any electric type instruments, there might be some valium involved on my part. *sigh* One more thing to worry about, right?

And then also the last of my single mom’s group friends got her referral this week. WOO HOO!! She waited like FOREVER! So go on over and check out her precious baby girl!  Congrats Nicole! She’s gorgeous and I’m sooo happy for you!

More of the kids on parade.
Em, shaking her moracas!! ha ha ha
I love this face. The what's going on here and why aren't I involved in it face!

Happy 4th of July!!

Happy 4th of July from my favorite little American!   Emily's day care had a big parade yesterday. It was sooo funny. All the little kids were dressed up in their 4th Red, White & Blue. The little ones like Emily were pushed in strollers, and the big ones walked. It was hysterical and Emily had a blast waving her little flag!!

ATTN BLOGGY PEEPS

OK all bloggy peeps!! I need your help! It’s time to get together a music list for the major fiesta after the wedding. What party songs do you recommend?  Keep in mind my small impressionable child will be present, so no gangsta rap!! She can listen to that when she’s over 3. HA HA HA   Anyways, we have to get a list together and to the DJ and I want lots of time to fine tune it.  So, bring it on the recommendations!!

**there will be no Chicken Dance, Electric Slide or Macarena at my wedding. Just for the record.***

Emily Updates

Emily is growing and changing so fast! It’s like you blink and she can do something new. So here are a few milestones I wanted to remember.

  • Emily is walking like a pro now and running a tiny bit too. She thinks it’s hysterical to “chase” the cat. The cat can totally outrun her, but she seems to enjoy the game as well. She is even starting to let Emily pet her a bit. (ok for like al of 3 seconds, but still, it’s HUGE for the cat)
  • The other day we went out to dinner. Em was drinking milk from a sippy cup on the ride there. When I went to take her out of the car seat she had milk all over her face and legs.  Emily looked at me and clear as a bell said YUCK!!  I thought that was pretty funny.
  • I can’t get her to take Yuck and make it be Duck or Luck. But we’ll keep trying.
  • Emily thinks the only way to read a book is from the comfort of a lap. She’ll cry if you don’t pick her up and hold her to “read” the book. The good thing is that she loves the books. Current fave is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see. (I have the book memorized.)
  • We FINALLY took Emily to the pool for the first time this past weekend. She’s ok, as long as she has a death grip on my swimsuit strap. I forgot my camera, but we are going again tonight, so I’ll try to get some swim suit cuteness for you.
  • Emily can consistently point to her belly, nose and foot. She can even point to my nose sometimes. We’re working on Ear and knees.
  • If I say Give me a kiss! She’ll put her hand to her mouth to blow me one. HA HA HA
  • She gives hugs now!! It’s awesome.

OK, enough bragging about my wonderful smart girl!! She’s getting so big, it’s crazy. She won’t be a baby much longer. She’ll be a little girl soon. *sigh*
