Adoption Talk

Emily and I have been having some adoption talks lately.  She knows she’s from China, and she knows a couple of her friends are from China.  We show her on a map where China is and where we live now and far away it is.  And she knows that Mommy & Daddy & Grandpa Dickie went to China to meet her and bring her home.   But we are still having trouble having her really understand what happened. Which is ok, she is only 3 after all.   So we read a lot of forever family books, or books about adoptions, and I change the words so that it’s Mommy & Daddy going to get Emily in China. 

 

            This morning we were getting ready for work/school and somehow the adoption thing came up again.  I was telling her that her first Mommy couldn’t take care of her but she did a good job and made sure that Emily got put with people who find her a forever family. And now I get to be her FOREVER Mommy.  And she goes “I know. You love me always!”      God I love that kid.   At 3, this is the most important thing I want her to know. That we will love her ALWAYS.   We can build on that. 

 

It’s gonna be a good day. I can tell.

Dress Up Time

 

 Em loves to play dress up.  In this pic, she has on a tutu, an apron, her purse and cell phone and a Halloween witch hat.  Shortly after I took this, she added gold lamme heels that I picked up at a garage sale (they were new in a box for 3 bucks)   I mean, why dress up if you aren’t going to go ALL THE WAY?!?

Update on Emily Aug 2010

 

Emily is now 3.5 years old. She is a hysterical, bossy, sweet DIVA right now. She really is.  It’s funny, and also startling to see how fast she is changing.  So here are few bullets of stuff about my favorite gal!!

 

• She can snap her fingers. She thinks this is soooo cool.
• She can count to 12.  13 onward gets a little wobbly, but she’s getting there.
• She seems to know most of the letters of the alphabet (the song)  A couple letters like B and V are repeats, and L, M, N  are all smooshed together into one interesting sound! 
• She knows how to write the letter E and will say, Down, across, across, across while writing it. Although in actuality, she usually does 4 across marks, instead of the traditional 3!! 
• She tells me all the time she is “turning 4”  Her birthday isn’t until Feb, but she seems excited about it none the less!
• When she gets mad at me, she says “Mommy, I NOT YOUR FWEND!”   If she is REALLY mad, she says “ You NO COME my birday!”   This seems to be her greatest insult to throw at me. 
• She can ride her little tricycle pretty well. Steering is still not her strong suit.
• She loves, loves, loves to swim. It’s her most favorite thing to do.  She’ll go under the water, jump in on her own, and blow bubbles while kicking her legs. I’m super proud of her!  I’m a huge fan of swimming myself, so I’m really glad she isn’t showing any fear of the water.
• She loves to dance. And I mean, she will actually shake her booty and say “I shake’n my booty, I shake’n my booty”  She’s big on All the Single Ladies and will dance in public to that one. She also likes the Kiss song “Shout it Out loud” quite a bit.   She tells me she likes to “rock n roll”
• She will only go to sleep if she is sleeping next to me. This is making me a little crazy.  I usually wait until she is asleep and then move her to her bed.  But, in the meantime, I tend to fall asleep too.  I don’t love this and hope it’s a phase.
• We spend a LOT of time reading books lately.  Some favorites are  Pappa, Please Get the Moon for Me  and My Family is Forever.  I feel like I read these just about every day.  That moon book I read 3 or 4 times a day.
• When we say good night to each other she says “ I Love you noodle butt”  HA HA HA 
• She likes to say  “I be the Mommy, and you be the Emily” when we are playing.  This cracks me up for some reason. 
• Daddy apparently gives the best horsy back rides in the UNIVERSE, because she demands them the minute he gets home from work.  And then all night thereafter.

 

OK, I guess that’s it.  I need to get back to writing more stuff down. I don’t want to forget some of her funnier moments.
