Race Like a Girl!

I’m participating in the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure this weekend, with the fabulous Susan & Miss O.  So I’m not a runner, but I am doing the Fun Run 1 Mile walk. I figure, 1 mile won’t kill me, and I might just help raise enough money to save someone else. Cool, right?!?

Won’t you consider donating to this great cause? My grandmother had a double mastectomy, so I’m especially aware of breast cancer and my family history. You can donate through my page Even 2 or 3 dollars would be appreciated.  Plus, you will get the warm fuzzy feeling of doing something good!

I’ll be sure to post photos. I’m pretty sure I’m going to bring Emily. It’s never too young to start showing your kids the great things that charity work can do!!

She's a Talker

Emily has been learning new words like crazy.  It’s a little surprising to hear her tiny voice say something that has significance.  And I think she is going to have a southern accent as well, which is also hilarious to me, and a bit appalling to Tony who is from New England. He still says CAAAAA  instead of caR, even though he’s lived in the south for 15 years!!

Some words Emily can say now:

Juice (anything in her sippy is juice, regardless of what it is)

Mine!   (thank you, day care)

Shoes

Blue

Yum Yum Yummy    which I find the cutest of her new words

Hi

Nigh nigh (which is night night)

Nose

Eye

Mouth

Not to bad, right?  She understands a lot more than she can say too. She is very smart, I can tell already.  Not that I’m biased or anything!!

The Revenge of Senorita Stinky Pants

This is what I get for calling my daughter Senorita Stinky Pants on the World Wide Web!!  A wicked stomach virus that did it’s best to kill me yesterday!!  I love Emily, but I’m so over the germ factory part of motherhood.

It’s a tough way to lose a few pounds, let me tell you.

And Tony is the best. Who else would cheer me on as I puked my guts out for the 4th time?  And who else would carry me back and forth from the bathroom to the bed when I was too tired to walk/crawl anymore?  He’s taking that in sickness and in health part to heart. I love him for it.

What they DON'T put in the brochure

Since most of my readers are adoptive parents (or waiting to be adoptive parents) let me just clue you in to what you don’t see when you scroll through agency websites

and see all the pictures of adorable children. You see those pages and you think, oh my gosh, they’re so beautiful, and tiny and perfect. I WANT ONE! What you don’t see is the poop. You don’t see the Mount Vesuvius type erruptions that will spurt forth from your child while you are trying to eat Chinese food at the take out place.  You don’t see parents frantically trying to clean up the yellow goo errupting from your child and at the same time not draw the attention of everyone in a 3 mile radius. You don’t see parents trying to figure out if it’s best to just stick her in the car with some sort of newspaper under her ass, or to try and strip her naked in the parking lot. And you sure as heck don’t see those same parents formulate a plan in the car to have one run in and clean out the kitchen sink while the other tries to disentangle the “bomb” from the back seat without getting any more poop on anything that has yet managed to not get covered.  Nor do you see a picture on those agency pages of a screaming naked baby standing in the kitchen sink getting hosed down like she just walked through radiation and is in phase two of decontamination process.

Welcome to reality people.  Or as I like to call it… Life with Senorita Stinky Pants!!

Sigh

I’m a horrible Chinese adoptive parent. This past weekend was the Chinese Moon Festival and I totally and completely missed it. I’ve got too much other stuff going on, I can’t keep up with everything. *sigh*  So I looked up the festival dates for next year and I put it in my calendar now. It’s Oct 2, 2009 if you’re like me and forget too much. I hope that’s a weekend.  Poor Emily. I should be teaching her about her culture, but instead, I’m spending my time doing trial runs of make up and hair and finding a stupid limo to take us from the wedding to the reception. Have I mentioned lately how much I loathe planning a wedding?

And I don’t belong to our local FCC, so I had no one reminding me. I did for awhile when I was waiting for Emily. But honestly, they don’t do much. They have like a Christmas get together and a Chinese New Year dinner and that’s about it. They didn’t do squat for waiting families. I made a single’s mom group, which has gone on without me (which is fine, since I’m not single anymore anyways) But it sort of stinks that they don’t do much.  It’s been a few years. Maybe I should give them another go. But it can wait until after the wedding. I’m such a slacker.

Today is Sept 11. I know for many of us, it's a sad day. A day to remember everyone that was lost, a day to thank our military and their families for all that they sacrifice to keep us safe.  it's a hard day for most people, because even as we go about our lives, we still remember the horror and grief of that day...that week really in 2001.

But...life goes on. It's a funny thing, it goes on whether you think it should or not some days.  And in a way, I'm oddly grateful for the Sept 11 tragedy, because it makes me respect what I have so much more. I'm so happy to live here in this country. To have family and friends that love me that know I love them.  To have my own home, with my beloved Tony and precious Emily.   So today, I could spend my day in tears thinking of what was, or I can remember that today is the day that Emily kissed me for the first time, all on her own, and then ran over and kissed Daddy.  She was so pleased with herself and we were so tickled with her that she did it over and over again. A new trick...kissing Mommy & Daddy!   So for me, for today,  I'm going to focus on the delightful, a kiss from my daughter, and not the sad.  And in a small way, I can feel that we beat those bastard terrorists. Because instead of living in fear, I'm living in joy.

A Break

I took a break from blogging for awhile. I don’t have much to say lately it seems.  A few things going on now (back to my trusty bullets!)

  • I get married NEXT MONTH. Holy moly!
  • I had to talk to the director at Emily’s daycare. I’m less than thrilled with her new teachers. They have a week to get their crap together and then I’m looking for another place. I so don’t want to put her in another place, but I don’t feel comfortable leaving her there now.
  • My new job is less desirable than I care to think about.  You know how in elementary school the math class introduced you to those God awful word problems? Like a Train leaves station A at 8pm going 45 mph. Another train leaves station B at 9 pm going 80mph.  When will they collide and how much damage will they cause?   Ya, well that’s my stinking job now. Figure out all the stupid word problems for my company. Just. Shoot. Me.
  • We went on vacation to the beach. Emily does not like the beach. At all.
  • Emily does like the pool. She walked right into the pool one afternoon and gave me a mini stroke. Luckily my sister was in the pool already, and so there was no damage. (except to my heart) Emily thought it was hysterical, she was laughing and smiling her head off. She walked right in with her shoes on and everything!
  • I’ve managed to lock myself out of my home office and I can’t find the stupid key. The camera is in there, as well as my computer. *sigh*  I’m too lazy to go upstairs and get one of the keys from there. It’s pathetic.
  • Tony and I watched Fringe last night. It was good. A little gross, but good. We’ve been trying to find some show that we could watch together, other than Family Guy and America’s Funniest Videos. The problem being that Tony pretty much only watches sports, and I pretty much only watch “girl” shows, or things like Lost, where it would be impossible to catch him up to the show now. So this has good possibility.
