Mother's Day 2009

I had a fabulous Mother’s Day.  I got to sleep in until 9, which is when Tony and Emily woke me up with breakfast in bed! It was really good too, scrambled eggs with cheese & bacon, and hot cross buns.  And Emily helped me eat part of it, because she is very good at sharing like that. HA!   We hung out some in the morning and then we decided since it was a really nice day out to go down to a local park and take a walk. The best part is that it’s on a lake, so we walked all around the lake and looked at turtles and fishies. Emily seemed to really enjoy it, and I know Tony and I did as well. It was very peaceful.  We stopped at the playground on the way out, but the slides were burning up too hot and there were no swings (ya, who every heard of a playground with no swings?) so we didn’t stay very long. 

 

Em and I took a nap and then while T ran some errands Emily I worked on the flower bed out front.  Emily is a very good supervisor. She likes to “inspect” what I’m doing.  After awhile though, she got a little bored and demanded that we walk. So she threw her dolly in her doll stroller and we walked up and down the street a few times. Em is so proud of herself for pushing her dolly so well that she looks up at me and smiles, and then promptly runs the stroller off the sidewalk into the grass. It’s cute. 

 

Emily is really turning into a big girl lately.  We’ve had a few successful potty encounters, and they are working on it at daycare as well. She’s in pull ups now most of the time.  She can put her pants on by herself now, although sometimes she puts them on backwards, she gets the general idea.  She’s talking more and more and is pretty much using the word “please” with some reminding on my part. “thank you” isn’t automatic yet, but we’ll get there. She can eat a bowl of cereal with a regular spoon all by herself; although she is still switching hands so we can’t tell yet if she is a lefty.  

 

My favorite new thing about Emily is that she is starting to pretend. She’ll tuck her stuffed animals in with a blanket and say “night night monkey” She’ll then pat them on the back to get them to sleep. Only Emily’s pats are more like the whacks you would give a choking person!!  She loves to dress up now, throw a purse over her shoulder, walk to the door and tell me “good bye!”  She is also using her play kitchen a lot to chop chop chop, and wash her hands.  It’s fun to watch her do new things.

 

All in all, we are having a terrific time together.  Emily is the sunshine in my heart.  I’m so grateful to get to celebrate Mother’s Day with her.
