Love Her!

Colleen 4 Months

Colleen was 4 months old this past Saturday.  She's a happy baby. Really, she hardly ever fusses just to fuss.  She will "talk" your ear off though, she loves the sound of her own voice! LOL  So let's see, her big accomplishments so far,  Rolling over, smiling quite a bit, and laughing.  She doesn't laugh much (yet) but when she does it's the most precious sound in the universe.  And of course, because Emily made me watch Tinkerbell everyday the entire summer she was 2, I know that the first time Colleen laughed, a fairy was born. hee hee  She still likes Tinkerbell, but not as obsessively, thank goodness!   Anyways, Colleen weighs around 13.5-14lbs now. She still looks long and thin, but she is starting to get the chubby thighs I love so much on babies.  She's a lot of fun to snuggle with and I have to say that the absolute best feeling in the world is having a baby fall asleep on your shoulder-all warm and snuggly and peaceful.  It's like a drug...i want it all.the.time.   It keeps you from losing your mind when you are up (again) at 1230, 330 and 5 every night.  Although it's getting better, it's not consistent.  I still have her sleeping in our room and I have no desire to change that. Everyone keeps telling me to put her in her crib, but I keep thinking why? I'm up at all hours with her still. Plus, i FEEL better if I can hear her breathing.  It's comforting. 

 

Kindergarten Already?

Well here is Emily in her school uniform, all dressed up for her first official day of kindergarten.  We're a little late to the game, but her daycare started a kindergarten room this year for the first time. Emily is only 4 and 1/2 but, for the last 2 weeks she has come home every day talking about kindergarten and doing pretend homework, writing pages and pages of letters all by herself, asking me to help her spell words.  So I looked into it and they were still willing to take in new kids. So Emily tried it out yesterday and today is her first REAL day.  I think she'll be just fine. The teacher in there has a masters in early childhood education, and when I spoke with her, she sounded not only excited to be teaching but like she really knew what she was talking about. I think Emily will really do well in there. She's a smart kid and needs a little challenge to her day.   Next year she'll go to public elementary and I'll probably have her do kindergarten again.  She'll only be 5.5 at the start of next school year, and I just think that is way too young to go into first grade.  Maybe I'm just postponing the boredom, but I think with next year being a whole new school, with new friends and a new teacher, doing a 2nd year of K won't be so bad. Hopefully it will just boost her confidence. I would be totally fine if she was the smartest kid in that class, ya know? ;-) 

 

Anyway, my baby girl is growing up. She is sooo excited about it, but I'm having a hard time realizing she's not quite the baby she was.
